EI, EX - Ecological Interfacing and Experience
Gardening Classes that I conducted with Janani Eshwar at Global City International School in Bangalore. It was a series of nature education sessions that we were holding for students of 2nd-5th Grade. We included embodied pedagogies of engaging with their natural environment as a method of science education.
Context
The classes were twice a week - 1 hour engagements with students of 2nd grade and 5th grade. They were tending to the same garden patch. They were spending a lot of time in nature and their natural curiousities were given a channel in such a space.
Process
The lessons were co designed. We had sessions for indoor spaces in the event of rain. We needed to build strong processes of rituals and bringing them to observe and care in a certain way to the garden. They planted multiple plants, learnt to work in pairs, groups and build a relationship to land, ownership and community.
